As Black Ops 6 is set to debut next week, Activision has outlined its strategy for safeguarding the game against cheaters using Call of Duty's Ricochet anti-cheat software. This strategy encompasses both the launch of Black Ops 6 and its ongoing protection.
Activision aims to detect and eliminate cheaters within an hour of their first match in Black Ops 6. The company is continuously refining its internal monitoring systems and developing new technologies to further reduce this detection time. During the Black Ops 6 beta, Ricochet was operational, and cheaters managed to complete approximately 10 multiplayer matches during the first weekend before being banned.
After adjusting their systems and implementing new detection methods for the second weekend, Activision halved the time to five matches, achieving their Time to Action goal. Notably, 25% of all bans during the second weekend occurred during the first match a cheater played.
Black Ops 6 will launch with enhanced security measures, and Activision has also activated new Warzone-specific anti-cheat features, with a future blog post planned to detail these methods. For future advancements, the Ricochet team is developing AI-driven tools to identify and combat cheaters. The team is leveraging data from both cheaters and pro players in the Call of Duty League to better understand player behavior.
Activision emphasizes that anti-cheat efforts are ongoing. "We are continually working to thwart the efforts of cheaters. This is a commitment we take very seriously," the publisher states. This announcement follows Activision's confirmation that players discovered a workaround in Ricochet's detection system, leading to false bans in Warzone and Modern Warfare 3, which have since been reversed.
