In a dynamic celebration that bridged cultural divides, Blue Ocean Corporation united employees from over 20 different nationalities at its Onam 2024 event in Dubai, reimagining the traditional festival as a potent emblem of global solidarity and inclusivity. The festivities retained the quintessential Onam elements, featuring an artistic Pookalam and melodious Onam songs that filled the venue, fostering an authentic ambiance reminiscent of Kerala’s grandest festival.
Continuing an exceptional tradition, the role of Mahabali, the revered king central to the Onam legend, was this year portrayed by an Egyptian employee, following last year’s performance by a Syrian employee. This innovative approach by Blue Ocean to shatter stereotypes not only defied customary norms but also epitomized the inclusive ethos that the organization champions. “Our sojourn in Kerala during the AGM was profoundly enriching, deepening our bond with the Onam celebrations we now honor. It was a splendid means to cherish those memories,” remarked Monzer Nawar, an Egyptian national who embodied the role of Mahabali this year.
Dr. Sathya Menon, Group CEO of Blue Ocean Corporation, commented: “As we expand, occasions like Onam serve as a reminder of the power inherent in our diversity. This year’s festivities once more reverberated with the collective vigor of our diverse team, a pivotal factor in our growth and success.” “It is heartening to witness how the spirit of our Kerala experiences has been exquisitely recreated here in Dubai. This achievement would not have been feasible without the tireless efforts of our remarkable team, whose commitment and spirit fortify the bonds within our Blue Ocean family,” added Abdul Azeez, Group Chairman of Blue Ocean Corporation.
The celebrations were further enlivened by the wholehearted participation of the non-Indian staff, who adorned traditional Kerala sarees and mundus, immersing themselves in the cultural legacy of Kerala. Highlights of the event included employees from multicultural backgrounds engaging in lively activities like Vadam Vali and performing the Thiruvathirakali dance, underscoring the team’s unity and fervor.
