BMW does not offer the Touring variant of its outstanding M3 in the United States, which is unfortunate. However, this situation might alter if the upcoming M5 Touring, expected to launch in the US later this year, demonstrates sufficient market potential. Although the current M3 Touring is unlikely to reach US shores, the next generation model stands a better chance, assuming there is enough consumer interest in the larger M5 wagon.
"The current M3 Touring is nearing the end of its lifecycle, making it highly improbable for us to introduce it to the US market. But if the M5 Touring performs well, the next generation of the M3 Touring might make its way to America," vice president of product management Andreas Meyer shared with CarBuzz. Thus, there is still a glimmer of hope.
While the M5 Touring is currently in its third generation, this latest iteration marks the first time BMW has officially sold it in the US. This comes amid a slight resurgence in demand for high-performance wagons among American consumers, following the introduction of models like the Mercedes-AMG E63 wagon, the Audi RS6 Avant, and the Volvo V60 Polestar Engineered. The M3 Touring would be the first among its key competitors to enter the US market. Mercedes-Benz and Audi both produce longroof versions of their C63 and RS4 models, respectively, but neither has been sold in the States.
The arrival of the M3 wagon in the US hinges on the success of the M5 Touring. Enthusiasts have long expressed a desire for more performance-oriented wagons, and now, their wishes are being fulfilled. If they wish to see more models like the M3 Touring, they will need to demonstrate their commitment by purchasing these vehicles.
