Bollywood luminaries Karan Johar and Rani Mukerji met with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on Tuesday. The stars were at the Australian Parliament House to honor the heritage and variety of Indian cinema. Albanese shared a photo from the encounter on Instagram, noting that Mukerji and Johar were in Canberra to promote the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne, one of the biggest Indian film festivals abroad, which has been active for 15 years. He highlighted the festival as a symbol of the strong ties between Australia and India and the dynamic Indian-Australian community.
Mukerji also marked the 50th anniversary of Yash Raj Films by unveiling a Yash Chopra commemorative stamp at the Australian Parliament during the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM). She expressed her honor at being part of the launch of the stamp, which celebrates not only Yash Chopra and YRF's 50-year legacy of influencing global pop culture but also the Indian film industry's role in entertaining audiences worldwide. Mukerji praised the IFFM for its 15-year role in fostering cultural and creative connections between India and Australia, and for its growth as a bridge between the top creative talents of both countries.
IFFM 2024 is scheduled to run until August 25, 2024.
