The Borderlands movie has made its debut on 4K Blu-ray, and although the film may not be the adaptation fans were eagerly anticipating, the Claptrap steelbook case included in the $35 Amazon-exclusive edition is undeniably impressive.

Walmart offers its own exclusive steelbook, featuring the main cast of the film. While it may not be as captivating as Amazon's version, it is currently priced at $5 less. Both exclusive editions come with 4K Blu-ray, standard Blu-ray, and digital copies of the movie. Alternatively, a non-steelbook 4K Blu-ray edition is available for $30 on Amazon.

The Amazon-exclusive case mimics the weathered design of Claptrap, the motor-mouthed droid voiced by Jack Black in the film. Inside, the case showcases battle damage in the form of an Eridian vault symbol. The special features include a series of behind-the-scenes documentaries that delve into the making of the film. This comprehensive list of extras is included regardless of whether you purchase from Amazon or Walmart.

Initially, Walmart was charging $40 for its exclusive edition of Borderlands, but the price has since been reduced to $30. Walmart's exclusive edition highlights characters from the film on both the exterior and interior of the case. Another distinction between the two versions is the disc art; the 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray discs feature unique designs at each retailer.

Upon its theatrical release on August 9, Borderlands received negative reviews, with many critics deeming it a disappointing adaptation that fails to capture the essence of the games. On Metacritic, it holds a Metascore of 26, while on Rotten Tomatoes, it has a 10% rating. Fan reception has been slightly more favorable, with a user score of 3.1/10 on Metacritic and a 51% on Rotten Tomatoes.

"For most of its duration, Borderlands is simply unremarkable, the kind of film that fades from memory so rapidly that it's actually challenging to dislike it intensely," Phil Owen commented in GameSpot's review of the Borderlands movie.
