Brembo and Öhlins Racing have just signed a significant agreement. The renowned brake manufacturer has acquired Öhlins from its parent company, Tenneco, for $405 million, as stated in a press release from Brembo. Provided that all regulatory approvals are met, this acquisition will mark the largest purchase in Brembo's history. It will also substantially broaden Brembo's presence in the automotive performance market.
Öhlins Racing is celebrated for its performance-oriented suspension components for both cars and motorcycles, utilized in both street and racing environments. Headquartered in Stockholm, the company was established in 1976 and currently operates two manufacturing facilities in Sweden and Thailand. Additionally, it maintains two research and development centers in these locations, along with four distribution and testing facilities in Sweden, Thailand, Germany, and the United States. Öhlins Racing currently employs around 500 people.
"As we unite with Brembo, we are eager to explore new growth avenues and utilize our combined strengths and assets to foster innovation and deliver enhanced value to our customers and employees," commented Öhlins Racing CEO Tom Wittenschlaeger.
It remains uncertain whether Brembo will implement any substantial changes to the workforce or product range. In recent years, Brembo has been expanding its operations, including the acquisition of SBS Friction in 2021 to incorporate motorcycle and ATV brake components into its portfolio. Earlier this year, Brembo announced the establishment of a new production facility in Thailand.
"Öhlins is an excellent match for Brembo," remarked Brembo Executive Chairman Matteo Tiraboschi. "It is a globally recognized brand, with a robust business and an unparalleled reputation, both on the racetrack and the road. We welcome Öhlins to our Group as a valuable opportunity to expand our offerings for the automotive market. With this addition, we advance further in our strategy to provide integrated intelligent solutions to our customers, leveraging synergies across critical technologies in the vehicle's corner."
The final approvals for the transaction are expected to be granted in 2025.
