Bruce Springsteen, 75, and his wife Patti Scialfa recently discussed how their relationship transitions from the stage to home life. Scialfa, 71, shared insights on The Howard Stern Show about balancing her role as both a bandmate and a wife. Stern questioned how she manages Springsteen's perceived authority at home, to which Scialfa replied, “Not really. I always tried not to be a wife on stage.” Springsteen added, “It’s over baby. I’m only boss for three hours, then I surrender the title, happily.”
The couple emphasized their low-key family life, where their children, Evan, Jessica, and Samuel, grew up unaware of their parents' fame. Scialfa, a member of the E Street Band since 1984, noted that their home was devoid of any indicators of celebrity status. Their children only realized their parents' fame later in life, with Springsteen recalling Evan asking about “Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out” in second or third grade.
Despite the challenges, the couple sees themselves as a team, a theme explored in Springsteen’s new documentary “Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band.” In the documentary, Scialfa reveals her diagnosis with multiple myeloma, leading her to step back from touring. She shared, “Touring has become a challenge for me. This affects my immune system so I just have to be careful what I choose to do and where I choose to go.” Springsteen recently reassured fans about Scialfa’s health, stating “she’s doing good.”
