Brussels Airlines announced on Friday that it will cancel the majority of its flights on October 1 due to a national strike by Belgian security workers.

Brussels Airport, the largest in the country, requested airlines to adjust their schedules as the strike would result in a significant reduction of security screenings. The airport anticipates a substantial number of security personnel participating in the strike, leading to a considerable disruption in airport operations on that day.

As Brussels Airlines' base is situated at Brussels Airport and it is one of the hub airlines for the Lufthansa Group, a spokesperson revealed that the airline would need to cancel 80% of its 203 scheduled flights for the day. Passengers will be provided with alternative flight options, including earlier or later departure dates, or same-day flights via another Lufthansa Group hub.

In August, Brussels Airport handled approximately 2.4 million passengers and 18,600 flights. This upcoming strike follows closely after the flight disruptions at Belgium's Charleroi airport, a key hub for budget airline Ryanair, which faced multiple days of strikes by its employees last month.
