You might anticipate a comic book series featuring Keanu Reeves to be quite laid-back, but with BRZRKR, you'd be mistaken. Created by Reeves, Matt Kindt, and Ron Garney, BRZRKR chronicles the tale of B, an immortal warrior burdened with an insatiable desire for death, cursed to wage an endless war. If you're keen on exploring BRZRKR, a Deluxe Limited Edition hardcover compiling the first 12 issues was released last month.
The BRZRKR Deluxe Limited Edition is currently slashed by over $20 and qualifies for Amazon's B2G1 Free Book Sale. Several BRZRKR trade paperbacks are also part of the buy two, get one free promotion. Given the Keanu Reeves connection, it's noteworthy that The Book of Elsewhere, co-authored by Reeves and China Miéville, is available in the sale. Published in July, The Book of Elsewhere adds another layer to the Reeves-themed offerings.
The 400-page hardcover anthology encompasses the entire BRZRKR series to date. The narrative follows B—who strikingly resembles Reeves on a high-protein regimen—as he embarks on suicide missions on behalf of the US government. As expected, the artwork is gruesomely detailed, with Garney's illustrations leaving nothing to the imagination as B endures stabbings, shootings, burns, and explosions in each mission. After all, self-preservation is a mortal's concern.
Here's the official synopsis from publisher Boom Studios: "The man known only as B is half-mortal and half-God, cursed and compelled to violence, even at the expense of his sanity." After centuries of wandering, B might have finally found solace—working for the US government to tackle battles too perilous for anyone else. In return, B will be granted the one thing he craves—the truth about his ceaseless, blood-soaked existence and how to end it.
