A few weeks back, Cadillac unveiled the Solitaire concept, a breathtaking convertible that seemed like a model we might see in their lineup shortly. Now, the automaker is peering even further into the future with Opulent Velocity, a fresh concept that imagines the V-Series brand's potential when autonomy, luxury, and performance are combined in a single all-electric vehicle.

Cadillac is sparse on powertrain specifics for the Opulent Velocity, describing the concept as an 'experience-based design study.' It emphasizes creating two unique user experiences, toggled by a physical switch in the cantilevered center console. Opulent mode activates the car's Level 4 autonomous capabilities for a hands-free driving experience, while Velocity mode offers the steering wheel and pedals for manual control. Beyond drive modes, the concept leverages increased processing power for advanced autonomous features, potentially enabling in-cabin experiences like real-time track guidance through the full windshield and augmented reality head-up display.

'Ultimately, it’s about how fast I can go around the track, what’s my best time, and the optimal way to achieve it, and if technology can enhance that, what are the possibilities?' said Bryan Nesbit, the executive director of Global Cadillac Design. The Opulent Velocity also serves as a platform for testing new battery technologies, cooling systems, and interior finishes. It features large butterfly doors for easier entry and exit, and experiments with the brand's vertical lighting signature, including illuminating the grille, badge, wheel center caps, and wheel spokes.

Inside, the cabin is designed to envelop its occupants, aiming for a light and airy feel. The full windshield display and augmented HUD provide driver information, while the steering wheel includes an integrated screen. This year marks the 20th anniversary of Cadillac’s V-Series, attracting a younger, college-educated demographic. The Opulent Velocity showcases the future possibilities for these enthusiasts, with its public debut scheduled for Friday at The Quail during Monterey Car Week.
