A contentious ability in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is under scrutiny, as Treyarch has acknowledged that it's considering nerfing the Recon three-perk bonus in the game. This perk enables players to spot opposing players through walls for a short duration after they respawn and leaves no death skulls upon successfully eliminating an enemy, provided they have the Vigilance, Engineer, and Ghost perks equipped.
FaZe's Swagg highlighted the issue on X/Twitter, to which associate director Matt Scronce responded with a concise one-word reply. Black Ops 6 boasts a more compact map design in multiplayer, which accentuates the new Omni-movement system featured in this year's Call of Duty game. With smaller arenas, the Recon-three perk grants a substantial advantage to players who utilize it.
On social media, many players expressed frustration over how difficult it was to gain momentum with opponents seemingly possessing clairvoyant abilities—fan-favorite map Nuketown being a notable example—leading to an overall frustrating experience. Additionally, players who discovered that flashbanging teammates could earn easy XP might be exacerbating these issues.
Currently available on PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 enjoyed a particularly successful launch through Xbox Game Pass. Analysts examined data from the Call of Duty HQ app—which includes several other Call of Duty games—and found that 52% of active Xbox Series X|S users and 34% of active PS5 players engaged with the game upon its release, resulting in a 'bonkers' day on Xbox consoles alone.
Looking forward, players can anticipate Black Ops 6 Season 1 on November 14 and the introduction of Call of Duty: Warzone's latest map, Area 99.
