A plethora of Call of Duty merchandise hit the shelves this week in tandem with the launch of Black Ops 6, featuring fresh console and PC gear collections from SteelSeries and Corsair. However, if you're particularly keen on acquiring a Call of Duty-themed controller, the standout release is the Victrix Pro BFG's new Call of Duty Field Op Edition for PlayStation and PC. This marks the latest special edition of Victrix's exceptional modular controller, which stands as our top pick for third-party gamepads on the PS5.

The Victrix Pro BFG Field Op Edition is currently retailing for $200 on Amazon, but it's also worth checking out last year's Midnight Mask Edition, which has seen a $20 price reduction to commemorate the launch of Black Ops 6. If you're intrigued by the Pro BFG after reading this, note that the standard white and black versions are available for even less. The black edition is priced at just $145, while the white version is $155. These typically sell for $180 each, which is $20 less than the special editions.

The Victrix Pro BFG is renowned for its modular design, allowing for easy customization. With the included tool, you can swiftly detach the faceplates covering the controls and rearrange the layout. This flexibility enables you to opt for aligned analog sticks (PlayStation style) or offset ones (Xbox style). Additionally, it comes equipped with four thumbstick caps, four stick grates, and three D-pad styles, including the solid square design shown above, as well as more conventional eight- and four-way styles.

The right analog stick and face buttons can be replaced with a six-button microswitch fight pad. While this won't be beneficial for Call of Duty, it's a fantastic inclusion for fighting game enthusiasts. It's also worth mentioning that Victrix released a Tekken 8 Edition of the Pro BFG in July.

The Pro BFG features four built-in back triggers that can be remapped on the fly, along with trigger locks for R2 and L2 that offer five different stopping points. You can save up to three custom profiles that can be cycled through on the fly. Additionally, you can remap inputs using the Victrix Control Hub on PC, giving you more control over your gaming experience. Unfortunately, this app is only available for PC, but adjustments save to the controller, allowing you to take advantage of features like tweaking stick and trigger sensitivity, setting up analog stick dead zones, and adjusting the sound profile.

One drawback of choosing a third-party PlayStation 5 controller is the loss of PlayStation's adaptive trigger and haptics technology, as well as motion controls. If these features are non-negotiable, the only pro-style controller for you is PlayStation's DualSense Edge ($200). Some PS5 games, like Astro Bot, integrate these unique features into the core gameplay experience, making the DualSense controller the ideal choice for such titles.

On the plus side, the Pro BFG offers significantly better battery life than DualSense controllers, delivering close to 20 hours on a full charge. If you prefer the ergonomics of an Xbox controller, the Pro BFG is the superior option. It syncs wirelessly to your PS5, PS4, and PC via a 2.4GHz USB dongle or can be connected via a lengthy, braided USB to USB-C cable for a hardwired connection. All accessories have dedicated slots inside the included hardshell carrying case.

The Pro BFG is also available in white and black models for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC, priced at $180. It's one of our favorite pro-style Xbox controllers, but we'd also recommend considering the new Razer Wolverine V3 Pro, which is Razer's first wireless console controller.
