Call of Duty has shifted away from the more grounded aesthetic of its older titles, with recent games featuring shop bundles that offer a variety of colorful and often outrageous operator skins. While not everyone appreciates these quirky bundles, a Treyarch developer has clarified in an interview with Dexerto that these operator bundles are here to stay. Currently, players can dive into Warzone matches as Nicki Minaj, Snoop Dogg, various WWE superstars, and iconic characters from Dune and The Boys. Black Ops 6 has also introduced store bundles that transform operators into a muscular shark, a stoned amphibian, and more.

While some players may find the vibrant and glowing skins distracting, Miles Leslie, Treyarch's associate creative director, emphasized the importance of balancing fun and realism. "Fun always comes first for us," Leslie stated. "We want to remain true to the DNA that defines a Black Ops game in terms of core gameplay, but we also like to break the rules if it enhances the fun for players." Leslie added, "When it comes to cosmetics, the Black Ops series naturally lends itself to some pretty outlandish themes, especially considering we're the creators of Call of Duty Zombies and all the wild storytelling that comes with it. We enjoy having fun with that aspect as well."

However, it's important to note that Treyarch approaches campaign design differently, focusing on maintaining a detailed and accurate story. "The Campaign features a tightly-defined cast of characters with an era-specific look that aligns with the story we're telling, along with our partners at Raven Software," Leslie explained. When discussing the game's postseason narrative, the developer assured that the story remains serious, but "that doesn't mean we can't have some fun with cosmetics along the way."

This suggests that players can expect more of these quirky operator bundles in future seasons of Black Ops 6. Activision has already hinted at an upcoming Squid Game collaboration for January, so fans can look forward to seeing those bright pink suits in both Black Ops 6 and Warzone in the new year. Season 1 Reloaded recently introduced additional multiplayer maps, the Merry Mayhem holiday event, and new DLC weapons.
