As Sonic the Hedgehog 3 gears up for its theatrical debut on December 20, now is the perfect moment to catch up on or revisit the story so far. Amazon is offering an excellent deal for those looking to enjoy the movies on 4K Blu-ray at a reduced price, as well as for collectors of Sonic merchandise. The Sonic the Hedgehog 2-Movie Limited-Edition Steelbook Box Set is currently on sale for just $25.42. This exclusive edition originally launched in November 2022 for $52 and typically ranges between $30 to $35 when available. After selling out following the August release of the Sonic 3 trailer featuring Keanu Reeves as Shadow, it is now back in stock.

With Sonic 3 set to premiere just days before Christmas, Blu-rays of the first two films and Paramount's Knuckles miniseries could be top holiday gifts, with collectible editions often the first to sell out during a surge in franchise popularity. Since Knuckles takes place between the second and third movies, it's wise to watch it if you haven't already. The six-episode miniseries is exclusive to Paramount+, but a Blu-ray release in September offers an alternative. The Knuckles Limited-Edition Steelbook is $29 at Amazon, while the standard edition without a steelbook case is $21.

The set includes an oversized box containing steelbook cases for each film, making it a four-disc collection. You'll receive both 4K Blu-ray and standard Blu-ray versions of both movies, along with digital copies and a plethora of special features. These include a new animated feature starring Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles, deleted scenes, a commentary track for the first movie featuring director Jeff Fowler and Sonic voice actor Ben Schwartz, and more. The set is housed in a special-edition steelbook case.

The first Sonic the Hedgehog movie introduced Sega's iconic blue mascot transported to our world to team up with Sheriff Tom Wachowski (James Marsden) in a battle against the nefarious Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey), who aims to capture Sonic and harness his power for his robot army. The sequel, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, expanded the roster with characters from the Sonic video games, including Miles "Tails" Prower, voiced by Colleen O'Shaughnessey, and Knuckles the Echidna, voiced by Idris Elba. In the upcoming third movie, Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles will unite with Dr. Robotnik to confront Shadow the Hedgehog (Keanu Reeves). Schwartz, Marsden, Carrey, O'Shaughnessey, and Elba will reprise their roles, with Elba also voicing Knuckles in the Paramount miniseries.

2024 marks a significant year for Gerald Robotnik's "Ultimate Life Form." Shadow returns to the Sonic video game franchise on October 25 with Sonic X Shadow Generations, featuring a remaster of Sonic Generations and a new story centered on Shadow. Preordering the physical edition ($50) grants you a replica journal detailing the creation of Shadow. Shadow also made history as the first display model in Lego's Sonic the Hedgehog lineup on October 1. The $70 Shadow the Hedgehog Lego bust, comprising 720 pieces, is exclusive to Target and Lego Store. Prior to its release, all Sonic the Hedgehog Lego sets were playsets, but Shadow now features as a minifigure in two Sonic playsets, including the Super Sonic vs. Egg Drillster set launched in August.

We've compiled additional Sonic the Hedgehog Blu-ray deals below, including standalone editions of Sonic 1 and 2 for those interested in collecting other Sonic steelbooks. Amazon also offers great deals on various Sonic animated series, with one standout being Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog: The Complete Series on Blu-ray for $37 (originally $60).

For those keen on Sonic reading material, IDW's ongoing Sonic the Hedgehog comics series is a delight, particularly for younger fans. A new box set collecting the first three volumes was released on October 15. It's worth noting that the first hardcover omnibus edition, containing the same comics, is currently priced slightly lower.
