On Thursday, India's Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) apprehended two individuals from Patna, Bihar, in relation to alleged misconduct in the NEET-UG exam. A high-ranking CBI official verified the arrest of Manish Prakash and Ashutosh, who were operating from Patna. Ashutosh was providing safe housing for the students, while Manish escorted them to a school to ready them for the test. The CBI officer explained that Manish transported the students in his car to Ashutosh's residence. This marks the first arrests by the CBI in the NEET paper leak case, with both suspects appearing in court. On Monday, the CBI assumed jurisdiction over the NEET (UG) paper leak in Patna, another fraud case in Godhra, Gujarat, and three instances of impersonation in Rajasthan. Earlier, President Droupadi Murmu emphasized the government's commitment to a thorough investigation and strict penalties for those involved in recent paper leaks. The National Testing Agency (NTA), which oversaw the NEET-UG, faces criticism and nationwide protests, with calls to dissolve the NTA. The Supreme Court has requested a response from the NTA regarding claims of inconsistent mark calculations on OMR sheets for the NEET-UG 2024 exam. A vacation bench of Justices Manoj Misra and SVN Bhatti has issued a notice, expecting the NTA's response by July 8. Multiple petitions have been filed in the Supreme Court, urging the recall of NEET-UG 2024 results and a fresh examination due to alleged paper leakage and irregularities. The court has not halted the NEET-UG 2024 counseling. The NEET-UG, administered by the NTA, is the gateway for entry into MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and other courses in both government and private institutions nationwide.
