Charli XCX recently hosted 'Saturday Night Live' and during her opening monologue, she referenced Martha Stewart's feud with New York Post journalist Andrea Peyser. The 32-year-old singer used Stewart's mistaken claim in her Netflix documentary that Peyser was deceased, and Peyser's subsequent response, 'I'm alive, bitch!', to illustrate the concept of 'brat'.

'Honestly, it's just an attitude,' Charli explained. 'It's a vibe. For instance, in the new Martha Stewart documentary: When Martha gets upset about an old magazine article and says she's glad the journalist who wrote it is dead, that's brat.'

Charli continued, 'Then last Friday, when that journalist responded with, 'Hey, I'm alive, bitch,' that is extremely brat.' The 'Apple' singer emphasized that 'anyone can be Brat,' as she was joined onstage by 'SNL' alum Kyle Mooney.

In the documentary, Stewart discussed the 'New York Post lady' who wrote 'horrible' things about her during her 2004 insider trading trial. The renowned homemaker served five months in jail for her crimes. 'But she is dead now, thank goodness,' Stewart said about Peyser, without naming her directly. 'And nobody has to put up with the crap she was writing all the time,' she added.

Peyser, who covered Stewart's six-week trial daily from the Manhattan courtroom for The Post, responded: 'I'm alive, bitch.' In her Nov. 7 column, Peyser wrote, 'News of my passing came as a shock. Should I be scared about continuing to write that 'crap'?' She also expressed sadness over Stewart's bitterness, rather than anger or worry.

Stewart addressed Peyser's column while speaking at the Philadelphia Conference for Women event, saying, 'She wrote this very scathing article today in the New York Post — my favorite newspaper.' After reading Peyser's headline, which elicited gasps from the audience, Stewart remarked, 'So, that will probably cause more people to watch my documentary.' The former talk show host also reiterated her innocence, stating her securities fraud misdeeds were 'a crime I didn't commit.'
