Chinese shipyard Cheoy Lee has unveiled a new 38.7-metre model named the 127 Discovery Explorer. Emphasizing a robust and 'seakindly' design, this model features a full-displacement steel hull with a sharp entry and spray chine. The yacht was developed in partnership with Nick Boksa of Boksa Marine Design.

The pilothouse is strategically positioned forward to ensure optimal visibility, drawing inspiration from commercial ship designs. The tender is located on the main deck aft, rather than the flybridge, to maintain a low center of gravity. Key specifications include a 2.4-metre draft, an 8.8-metre beam, and a 4,000 nautical mile range. Accommodation spans five cabins, including a full-beam master suite on the main deck. Although the explorer can be operated with a smaller crew, it has the capacity to house up to 11 staff members, including an engineer and a captain's cabin, a feature seldom seen in yachts under 40 metres. A dumbwaiter serves all four decks.

While the interior design remains undisclosed, it will be crafted by Sylvia Bolton. The formal saloon and dining area are tailored for entertaining, whereas the skylounge and sundeck are optimized for 'informal fun and relaxation,' as stated by the shipyard.

B.Y Lo, Cheoy Lee's director, added, 'Drawing on the commercial maritime background we share, our mission was to create an expedition yacht under 150 feet that still offers the luxury, seaworthiness, and serviceability to allow owners to fulfill their dreams of global discovery in safety and comfort.' He continued, 'The 127 Discovery has beautifully realized this vision, and we are eager to collaborate with Nick on future models in the Cheoy Lee Discovery Series.' This announcement follows the launch of the first unit in the Cheoy Lee 130 explorer series, designed to 'meet the demands of bluewater adventures around the globe' with exterior lines by Overing Yacht Designs.
