After the recent announcement that Chris Evans is set to rejoin the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) in The Russo Brothers' upcoming film, Avengers: Doomsday, it was only a matter of time before more casting news surfaced. With Evans' return confirmed, Anthony Mackie's role as Captain America in Doomsday was also reaffirmed, and Benedict Cumberbatch discussed Doctor Strange's involvement at Tokyo Comic Con. Now, another significant piece of the puzzle has been revealed.
According to Deadline, Hayley Atwell is expected to reprise her role as Agent Peggy Carter in the fifth Avengers film. Atwell's last appearance in the MCU was as a member of the Illuminati in Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness, portraying a variant of Peggy Carter who had been injected with the super serum and sported the Union Jack on her chest. However, the last time we saw the original Peggy Carter was at the end of Avengers: Endgame, where she was reunited with her love, Steve Rogers, after he traveled back in time to fulfill his promise of a dance with her.
The nature of Peggy and Steve's relationship in Doomsday remains uncertain, especially if Evans is indeed playing Steve Rogers. It's also possible that they may not be the same characters we know and love, given the multiverse's unpredictable nature, as evidenced by Robert Downey Jr.'s surprise casting as Doctor Doom. Despite the lack of concrete details about Doomsday's plot, the anticipation for Marvel's next big team-up movie continues to grow.
When Evans and Atwell return to the screen on May 1, 2026, it will have been seven years, 15 films, 19 TV series, and countless sleepless nights since their last appearance together in the MCU. While we process these staggering statistics, there's another Marvel movie on the horizon: Captain America: Brave New World.
