After a short break, Chris Evans is poised to make his comeback in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) with the highly-anticipated film, Avengers: Doomsday. Directed by the Russo Brothers, Joe and Anthony Russo, the upcoming movie is set to bring back beloved characters and introduce fresh twists along with multi-universe elements, as confirmed by Deadline.

While details about Evans' specific role remain undisclosed, Deadline has revealed that Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson will reprise his role as Captain America, continuing his path in the legendary role. It's speculated that Evans might not directly return as Captain America, but there's still a chance he could reappear as Steve Rogers, the character he portrayed so memorably for almost a decade in the MCU.

Evans' final appearance as Steve Rogers was in Avengers: Endgame (2019), which wrapped up his character's arc with a touching and heroic farewell. However, recent developments have sparked rumors about his potential return in some capacity. Evans also made a brief appearance earlier this year in Deadpool & Wolverine, reprising his earlier Marvel role as Johnny Storm from the 2000s Fantastic Four films.

As previously reported, Avengers: Doomsday will feature several fan-favorite characters from the MCU, including many original Avengers. Additionally, Robert Downey Jr. will return to the franchise, but in a completely different role, portraying the iconic Marvel villain, Dr. Doom. The Russo Brothers, known for their work on Avengers: Infinity War, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and Captain America: Civil War, will bring their distinctive storytelling approach to Avengers: Doomsday.

The film is expected to showcase a star-studded cast, including the new Fantastic Four members -- Pedro Pascal, Joseph Quinn, Vanessa Kirby, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach -- who will join the Avengers for this multi-universe adventure. Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled for release on May 1, 2026, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars in May 2027, promising an exhilarating future for the MCU as it delves into new dimensions and explores crossovers between characters and universes.
