Chris Pratt shared his experience of receiving a substantial sum of money for his work in Hollywood. He admitted to spending his entire first acting paycheck due to his lack of financial management skills, as reported by People.
Pratt is renowned for his portrayal of Star-Lord in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, starting with Guardians of the Galaxy (2014), and his role as Owen Grady in the 'Jurassic World' trilogy (2015-2022). When asked if his modest beginnings influenced his approach to handling money, the star of The Garfield Movie revealed that it was quite the opposite for him.
Contrary to struggling with expenses, Pratt humorously confessed, 'Oh, no. No, no. I was under the impression that I would never run out of money.' Recalling his initial significant paycheck from a TV movie amounting to $75,000, he chuckled and expressed disbelief. He shared how he swiftly depleted the funds within two months, exclaiming, 'I was like, 'I'm never gonna wait again, I am leaving.' And about two months later, I was like, 'Where'd that money go?!''
Pratt candidly disclosed that he indulged in extravagant expenditures, such as vacations to Hawaii and Australia, and even contemplated investing in a yacht. He admitted that his lack of financial education in his youth contributed to his unfamiliarity with managing money.
Reflecting on his financial maturity, Pratt admitted, 'It took a good amount of time for me to kind of stop and say, 'All right, I gotta get wise about this. I have to think about, 'What am I gonna do? How am I gonna get to the point to where if I stop working one day, I'll still be okay? My family will be okay.' This was one of the steps of me growing up.'
Additionally, the Jurassic World star shared pivotal moments in his career where he felt a sense of accomplishment, including obtaining his SAG card and featuring in a Carl's Jr. TV commercial. However, his greatest milestone was purchasing a house for his mother, Kathy Pratt, after his appearance on the TV series Everwood, as reported by People.
