Sound the Nolan news klaxon, folks (Bwahhhhh!), Hollywood's beloved British Chris is back in the cinematic kitchen, stirring up excitement once more. Following the resounding success of his multiple Oscar- and BAFTA-winning biopic, Oppenheimer, Christopher Nolan is gearing up to collaborate with Universal again on his next film. According to Deadline, it appears Nolan is eyeing his Oppenheimer and Interstellar star, Matt Damon, to lead the new project.
Currently scheduled for release on 17 July, 2026, the plot of Nolan's 13th film—which, as you might expect, is already being primed for a grand IMAX debut—remains tightly under wraps. However, we do know that Nolan will not only write and produce the film alongside his longtime producing partner and wife, Emma Thomas, but also plans to start filming in early 2025. With Damon already in the running to headline, it's likely we'll see an increasingly star-studded cast announcement in the coming weeks and months.
As for what this enigmatic new film might entail, clues are scarce. THR reports that sources have dismissed the idea of Nolan tackling the '60s British intelligence series, The Prisoner, for the big screen. Additionally, the notion that the Inception director might venture into horror remains unconfirmed—at least for now. All we can be certain of is that Nolan is returning, and if his previous 12 films are any indication, that's enough to get us eagerly anticipating whatever he has in store next. "Alexa, play 'Cornfield Chase'... again!"
