Citadelle des Morts is an upcoming Zombies map in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, set to release on December 5. Treyarch has unveiled a behind-the-scenes video showcasing the creation of this French-inspired location, shedding light on the design decisions and introducing the new Doppelghast enemy type. The map is set in a castle in France, overrun by the undead, and marks a shift from the science fiction elements typical of Zombies mode to a more magical theme. Citadelle des Morts introduces elemental sword Wonder Weapons, reminiscent of Black Ops 3's Der Eisendrache map, which featured elemental bows in a snowy castle setting. However, Treyarch emphasizes that this new design allows players to delve deeper into the castle's claustrophobic interiors, unlike any previous castle map.

The video also provides insights into the creation of the Doppelghast, a unique special enemy with two heads and tentacle-like appendages. The developer aimed to make this creature as unsettling as possible, describing it as 'super fast and in your face.' Anthony Dicenzo, Treyarch's lead animator for Zombies, explains, 'We wanted to make it have a diverse attitude, where the two heads are constantly looking for something, but they have a separate mind.' The map also features unique traps, such as hot oil traps that can be ignited and magical runes designed to protect players.

Treyarch hints at secrets and Easter eggs within the castle, including the main storyline quest and likely numerous side quests, similar to previous maps. Additionally, the story trailer for Citadelle des Morts can be viewed here, merging storylines from Treyarch's previously unconnected Zombies narratives.
