Coby Carruthers (Aus) secured a wire-to-wire victory in the Emirates Golf Federation’s UAE Cup, sponsored by HSBC, at Al Ain Equestrian, Shooting and Golf Club, Al Ain. Carruthers shot a final round 67, bringing his total to an eight under par 54-hole score of 202, winning by four strokes.

Starting with a double bogey and a bogey in the final round, Carruthers found himself three over par after just two holes. However, he rallied with four consecutive birdies from the fourth tee and further birdies on holes 12 and 16, finishing with a three-under round of 67.

“I was a bit nervous towards the end, but overall, I’m very pleased with my performance this week,” said Carruthers, 19, during the prize presentation. “I wasn’t playing my best coming into this event, but I’m definitely looking forward to the Challenge Tour invite in 2025 and the Asian Tour Qualifying School in December 2024.”

Carruthers also congratulated his fellow Australian teammates, including Jye Halls who tied for second in the Men’s Elite Division, and Ella Scaysbrook and Rachel Lee who finished second and third in the Ladies Elite Division. “We’ve all had a fantastic time in Al Ain and the UAE,” he added. “I want to thank the EGF, the golf club, and Al Ain for their hospitality.”

In the Elite Ladies’ Division, Prim Prachnakorn (Thailand) finished four under par for the tournament, making her debut in a Ladies European Tour event. Sam Mullane (UAE) won the UAE Championship with rounds of 71 and 68, securing a three-shot victory.

The Elite Division is a qualifier for World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) points, supported by The R&A, with players from 30 countries participating, including the UAE.
