Conor Benn can now resume his boxing career in the UK after the National Anti-Doping Panel (NADP) cleared him of any wrongdoing related to two failed drugs tests in 2022. Benn tested positive for the fertility drug clomifene in two tests leading up to his scheduled fight with Chris Eubank Jr in October 2022, resulting in the contest being canceled at the last minute. Benn's license was revoked by the British Boxing Board of Control, and although his provisional suspension was lifted by the NADP in July 2023, it was re-imposed following a successful appeal by the Board and the UK Anti-Doping Agency (Ukad).
After the NADP reversed its decision on Tuesday, stating it was “not comfortably satisfied” that Ukad had proven Benn had committed a doping offense, the 28-year-old issued a statement on his social media accounts. Benn expressed gratitude for being cleared of any wrongdoing after a challenging two years. He emphasized his passion for boxing and advocacy for clean sport, hoping his clearance would clarify why he had maintained his innocence so strongly. Benn also expressed no ill will towards Ukad or the British Boxing Board of Control, looking forward to reconciling with the board and moving forward together. Despite facing challenges, he remained disciplined and focused, a testament to his desire for greatness. Benn is relieved to close this chapter and eager to return to the ring to fulfill his potential.
Although Benn, who has fought twice in the US since his provisional ban, will likely seek a long-awaited clash with Eubank Jr, his issues may not be entirely resolved. Ukad stated it will “carefully review” the NADP's decision before deciding whether to pursue further appeal rights.
