Control 2, the follow-up to Remedy Entertainment's atmospheric game, is set to be an action-RPG. This revelation came during Remedy's Capital Market day on November 19, along with news about Control's upcoming Mac support and a free update.
The term 'action-RPG' might evoke thoughts of games like Diablo, but it seems Remedy is not deviating significantly from the original Control's formula. In a statement to GameSpot, the developer clarified: 'Let people speculate, but suffice to say, Control 2 is a natural progression from the first game, retaining core elements of narrative and spectacle, while deepening player involvement through exploration and RPG mechanics.'
During the investor video, Remedy mentioned that the sequel aims to attract a broader audience, though specifics were not provided. Additionally, Control will get a free update in early 2025, which will unlock 'previously released content.' This could include exclusive and paid DLC outfits such as the Extradimensional Suit from the AWE DLC, the Tactical Response outfit as a preorder bonus, the Astral Dive Suit for PS4 day-one players, and the Urban Response outfit from the Control Digital Deluxe edition for PS4.
Lastly, the Control Ultimate Edition will be available on Mac starting February 12, 2025. While the release date for Control 2 remains undisclosed, the multiplayer spin-off, FBC Firebreak, is expected to launch next year, offering some relief. For a sneak peek, the sequel is teased in Alan Wake 2: The Lake House DLC, an additional chapter that shouldn't be missed.
