Cori Broadus, the daughter of Snoop Dogg, is speaking candidly about her health battles. The 25-year-old, who attempted suicide in 2021, recently opened up about the events that led to that moment. “I’ve always wanted the pain to go away,” she told Us Weekly in an interview published on Wednesday. “You reach a point where you think, ‘Enough is enough.’”
“We often believe the easiest way out is to end it all, but that’s not the truth,” she continued. “Being placed on a 5150 hold in the hospital, having supervision for even the simplest tasks, and then being sent to a mental health facility was a real eye-opener for me.”
Broadus explained her decision to share her story now, saying, “I’m an open book. So many people reached out to me, sharing that they’re going through similar struggles. People often say, ‘How could you want to end your life? You have such a perfect life.’ But material things don’t matter when you’re gone. I want to talk about things that others might avoid.”
In the premiere episode of the E! docuseries “Snoop’s Fatherhood: Cori & Wayne’s Story,” Broadus revealed how her lupus diagnosis at age 6 affected her mental health over the years. “Since I was a little girl, I’ve always been depressed, always asking, ‘Why me?’ Being young and sick with lupus was tough. Constant doctor visits and taking medications took a toll. When COVID hit, I sank into a dark place.”
Lupus, an autoimmune disease where the immune system attacks healthy tissues, has no cure and can be challenging to diagnose due to its varied symptoms, according to the Mayo Clinic. Cori, the daughter of Snoop, 53, and Shante Broadus, also discussed her suicidal thoughts during the pandemic and how the mental health facility helped her manage her depression.
“I was in a mental facility because I tried to take my life in 2021,” Broadus shared. She also credited her fiancé, Wayne Duece, for being a significant part of her support system. “I’m lucky to have Wayne, but everyone goes through something. It will get better with time. Sometimes, it feels like the end of the world, but it’s not.”
In the series, Broadus, who goes by the name Choc in her music, talked about how she channeled her energy into launching her cosmetics line, Choc Factory, as a way to cope. “I told myself, ‘You need to get out of this funk.’ I researched hobbies and came across lip gloss makeup. I thought, ‘I love lip gloss, let’s do this.’”
Later in the series, Broadus discussed her lupus management and prioritizing her mental health with her best friend, Itali Miller. “I’ve been off my medications for four or five months now. My lab results have never looked better. I still feel tired, but my body doesn’t ache as much.”
Broadus has been transparent about her health challenges and treatments. In January, she revealed that she had a “severe” stroke, which delayed her wedding plans with Duece. In September 2023, she told People that she decided to stop taking lupus medication and opted for holistic treatments instead, such as exercise and herbal remedies.
“I’ve been feeling better than ever,” Broadus said. “I chose an all-natural approach because my medication was making me feel like I was losing my mind. I’ve been on medication since I was 6. I wanted a change. I’m only 24, taking 10 to 12 pills daily. So I decided to go cold turkey.”
“There are days when I feel sick, but I’m grateful to do what I love and share my story,” Broadus continued. “Then there are days when I think, ‘I wish I wasn’t sick. What would my life be like if I were just a normal girl?’ It’s part of life. You’ll have bad days, not just good ones.”
