October is brimming with new horror games that you can dive into now or before Halloween wraps up. While Corporeal won't be among those available immediately, this game looks creepy enough to extend the spooky season well into the future. The New Zealand-based indie team Cold Out has unveiled this paranormal mystery game, which is played using a photo album featuring real-life people, not in-game characters. This choice results in a game that feels unsettlingly real, at least from what we can see in the reveal trailer.

It evokes a bit of a Sam Barlow and Half Mermaid game, like Immortality, mixed with elements of the 2012 underrated horror film, Sinister, where a writer sifts through abandoned home movies and photos to unravel the haunted history of his new house. Players will navigate through a photo album with analog-inspired interfaces and gameplay, solving non-linear puzzles that uncover the mystery of the cursed family at its core.

Though I've compared it to Sinister and Immortality, the team also draws parallels to Annapurna's Storyteller meets the cult-classic horror movie, Lake Mungo. Set in the 1990s, Corporeal joins a growing list of projects, particularly spooky ones (like I Saw The TV Glow, Long Legs, etc.), that have delved into that era. The nineties nostalgia is in full swing.

Corporeal is slated for release on Steam, though no specific date has been announced yet.
