A crane at a construction site near Thailand's capital collapsed on Friday, resulting in the deaths of three workers and injuries to ten others, according to police.
The accident took place early Friday morning in Samut Sakhon, west of Bangkok, where a crane was being used to construct a flyover. Three workers were pronounced dead at the scene, while ten others sustained injuries, some of them critical, as reported by Detchanakorn Chanthaphum from the Samut Sakhon police to AFP.
"We found three bodies at the site," Chanthaphum said, noting that the workers had died immediately. A joint team of engineers and police is currently investigating the cause of the collapse, with initial suspicions pointing to an overloaded girder.
Construction accidents are a frequent occurrence in Thailand, often due to business operators neglecting safety standards and operating without the necessary permits. In March, a similar incident at a factory construction site east of Bangkok resulted in the deaths of seven people when a crane collapsed.
