In October 2023, CD Projekt announced a collaboration with Anonymous Content for a live-action adaptation set in the Cyberpunk 2077 universe. But what is the current status of this project? And what about the previously announced new Cyberpunk anime for Netflix?

During an earnings call on November 26, CD Projekt management revealed that the live-action Cyberpunk 2077 project is still in the conceptual phase, though it has advanced since its initial announcement a year ago. However, the project has not yet been pitched to potential streaming platforms or studios, but this could occur within the next 12 months.

Regarding funding, CD Projekt is financing the initial concept but not the entire production if it moves forward. "We are not planning to fund the entire shooting of the live-action project," the company stated, clarifying that the early production costs would be significantly lower than the total production budget.

Anonymous Content, known for producing shows like True Detective and Mr. Robot, as well as films such as Spotlight and The Revenant, is collaborating with CD Projekt. The partnership specifically involves chief creative officer David Levine, who previously worked at HBO and was instrumental in the development of Game of Thrones.

In October 2023, CD Projekt was seeking a screenwriter to develop a story for the live-action Cyberpunk project, whether it be a film or a TV series. Meanwhile, the new Cyberpunk anime, announced in September 2024, is still in progress. It remains uncertain whether this project will be a sequel or an extension of the previously released Cyberpunk Edgerunners series.

On the gaming front, a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, codenamed Orion, is currently in development. Despite a rocky launch in December 2020, Cyberpunk 2077 has become one of the best-selling video games of all time, with over 30 million copies sold. Its expansion, Phantom Liberty, has surpassed 8 million copies sold.

Additionally, CD Projekt is working on The Witcher 4, which has now entered full production.
