Daft Punk have unveiled the trailer for their 2003 anime film Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar. The trailer release precedes a one-night-only event on December 12, which will showcase the film on the big screen in over 800 cinemas worldwide.

Directed by Kazuhisa Takenouchi under the supervision of renowned Japanese manga artist Leiji Matsumoto, the film was created as a visual counterpart to Daft Punk's 2001 album 'Discovery'. This album holds certifications such as Gold in the US, 2x Platinum in the UK, and 3x Platinum in France, and it ranks among Euronews Culture's Best European Albums of the 21st Century.

Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar has been remastered in 4K and features six additional music videos from Daft Punk, directed by acclaimed filmmakers like Spike Jonze, Michel Gondry, Roman Coppola, and Warren Fu. The dialogue-free film is a space opera that chronicles the journey of the Crescendolls, an alien band kidnapped by a malevolent human with a sinister plan.

The storyline was conceived by the French duo behind Daft Punk, Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo. The film had a limited theatrical release in 2003 following its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival's Directors' Fortnight. Since then, it has only been available on home media.

Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar will be screened in theaters globally on December 12. Tickets are now available at interstella5555film.com.
