As anyone who's seen the Star Wars sequel trilogy knows, Daisy Ridley is no stranger to intense action. From battling Kylo Ren on Starkiller Base in The Force Awakens, to taking down the Praetorian Guards in The Last Jedi, and that iconic flip over the TIE Silencer in The Rise of Skywalker — Ridley has proven her action chops. However, her latest project, Cleaner, directed by Martin Campbell (known for Goldeneye and Casino Royale), promises to top even her Star Wars feats. In this Sky Original action film, Ridley plays an ex-soldier turned window cleaner who must save hundreds of people from a criminal group led by Clive Owen, all while suspended high above a London skyscraper.
The first trailer showcases Ridley's character, Joey Locke, in action. Sporting a fresh haircut and a determined expression, she takes on Owen's extremist group, who target a corporate gala at an energy firm. As Owen's character criticizes the "greedy, needy, cocky" elite, Ridley's Locke fights her way through his henchmen, aiming to protect her employers and her younger brother. The teaser highlights high-octane action sequences, with Ridley performing many of her own stunts, and Campbell's signature kinetic direction reminiscent of his Bond films.
Here's the official synopsis: "After a group of criminal activists take over an energy company’s annual gala to expose their corruption, their just cause is hijacked by an extremist who is ready to murder everyone in the building to send out his anarchic message. It falls to an ex-soldier turned window cleaner (Ridley) – suspended 50 storeys up on the outside of the London skyscraper – to save those trapped inside, including her younger brother." The film also stars Taz Skylar, Flavia Watson, Rufus Jones, Richard Hope, Lee Boardman, and Ruth Gemmell, known to 90s kids as Tracy Beaker's mum.
We'll see if Cleaner becomes the next Die Hard or if it struggles to make an impact when it premieres on Sky Cinema in 2025.
