Three crashes were recently captured on Abu Dhabi's police cameras, all involving drivers committing the same violation: jumping the red light. In an effort to urge motorists to exercise greater caution at traffic signals, the Abu Dhabi Police shared a 66-second video clip on Friday, highlighting the perils of disregarding red lights.

In one of the incidents, an SUV was observed making a left turn at a signal without noticing that it was red. A 4WD on the opposite side of the road attempted to avoid the SUV but was too late—it collided with the side of the SUV. Both vehicles nearly spun out of control following the impact.

In another incident, a white SUV was caught speeding through a red light, resulting in a side-swipe by a sedan emerging from a street on the right. Additionally, a dark sedan was seen striking a 4WD after ignoring a left-turn signal.

Red-light violations are considered serious offenses, carrying penalties of Dh1,000 and 12 traffic points, according to the Abu Dhabi Police. The vehicle will also be impounded for 30 days, and a Dh50,000 penalty must be paid to retrieve it. The police emphasized the importance of avoiding distractions while driving, noting that some drivers were seen running red lights due to using their phones for internet browsing and calls.
