Dave Coulier is standing up for his friend John Stamos. Coulier, 65, took to social media on Tuesday to defend his former "Full House" co-star, who has been criticized for wearing a bald cap to show support for Coulier during his stage 3 cancer fight. "I'm disheartened to see so many negative comments as I start my cancer journey," Coulier wrote in an Instagram post.

"It's our friendship (me and John) and this is how we are coping with a very difficult time," the actor added. "I'm a comedian and humor is what keeps me going. John knows how to lift my spirits, and I couldn't help but laugh when he showed up wearing a bald cap — truly a caring friend and brother."

Coulier, who has stage 3 non-Hodgkin lymphoma, continued, "I've received messages from many people who were inspired by my words and actions to schedule doctor's appointments and get screenings. I'm still finding humor in the face of adversity."

"I lost my sister, Sharon, my mother, Arlen, and my niece, Shannon, to cancer. We tried to stay positive and made each other laugh through the toughest times," he explained. "So, I'm using my platform to raise awareness about early cancer detection to help others. That's just who I am."

"I wish everyone nothing but love," Coulier concluded his message.

One week after Coulier shared his cancer diagnosis, Stamos posted an Instagram showing off his bald cap and Coulier's shaved head. Stamos said he wore the bald cap and edited photos to show "solidarity" with Coulier. However, Stamos' well-intentioned post drew negative comments from fans.

Stamos and Coulier have been close friends since the 1980s when they played Uncle Jesse and Uncle Joey on "Full House." When Coulier publicly announced his cancer, Stamos immediately supported his longtime friend on Instagram.

Coulier confirmed last Wednesday that he's undergoing chemotherapy for his "very aggressive form of cancer." He said he discovered his diagnosis five weeks ago after dealing with a bad cold and noticing swelling in his groin area.

In an interview with People, Coulier revealed that he informed his "Full House" castmates — including Stamos, Jodie Sweetin, Lori Loughlin, Candace Cameron Bure, and Andrea Barber — about his diagnosis before making it public. "I didn't want them to hear it from someone else, so I sent a text message out," he said, noting that he received an "immediate" and "overwhelming" response from everyone.
