Dave Grohl's daughter Violet has returned to social media. On Wednesday, the 18-year-old posted her first Instagram photos since her father, 55, disclosed that he had welcomed a child with a woman outside his marriage to Jordyn Blum, whom he married in 2003. Violet shared a carousel of images, including a dimly lit building, a concert snapshot, and a selfie featuring her with black hair.
In the selfie, Violet donned a black bra adorned with silver necklaces, opting for a gothic glam appearance with a dark red lip. She captioned the post with a simple, “:-)”. On her Instagram Stories, the singer posted a second selfie, this time pouting with one eye closed, as Bauhaus’ “Silent Hedges” played in the background.
The Foo Fighters frontman, who is also father to Ophelia, 10, and Harper, 15, with Blum, 48, announced the birth of his fourth daughter in a September 10 post. Shortly after, Violet seemed to deactivate her Instagram account. Grohl's statement read, “I’ve recently become the father of a new baby daughter, born outside of my marriage. I plan to be a loving and supportive parent to her. I love my wife and my children, and I am doing everything I can to regain their trust and earn their forgiveness. We’re grateful for your consideration toward all the children involved, as we move forward together.” A representative for Grohl confirmed that no further comments would be made by the musician.
At the 2023 Glastonbury Festival, Grohl brought his oldest child, named after his grandmother, on stage to perform a song from the band’s latest album, “But Here We Are.” He introduced her as “my favorite singer in the world,” and they performed “Show Me How,” a song he wrote for his mother, Violet’s grandmother. After their performance, Grohl exclaimed, “That’s my girl!” and joked with the crowd about hitting a bad note while performing with his daughter.
Grohl and Blum, a former model and MTV producer, married in a private ceremony at their Los Angeles home on August 2, 2003. They have generally kept their family life private, though they made a rare public appearance together at the 2023 Grammys. Blum has remained silent about their marriage, while Grohl has occasionally spoken about their love. He told The Guardian in 2007, “Jordyn and Violet are anchors that keep me from completely disappearing.”
The musician also reflected on how fatherhood changed his career. “I used to tour nine months out of the year. Now I don’t like being away from my kids for more than 12 days,” he told TIME in 2010. “It’s changed everything that I do. When you have kids, you see life through different eyes. You feel love more deeply and are maybe a little more compassionate. It’s inevitable that that would make its way into your songwriting.”
The news of Grohl and Blum expecting Violet was inadvertently revealed by Grohl’s former bandmate, the late Taylor Hawkins. In 2006, Hawkins told MTV, “We’re going to be touring Europe in January and February, but we’ve got to be home by March, because Dave and his wife are having a baby. But I probably wasn’t supposed to tell you that.”
