Britain's new Foreign Secretary, David Lammy, is set to advocate for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the release of hostages during his visit to Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories on Sunday, according to the foreign office.
Lammy is scheduled to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, pressing for a 'credible and irreversible pathway towards a two-state solution', as stated by the Foreign Office in a recent announcement.
'The death and destruction in Gaza is intolerable. This war must end now, with an immediate ceasefire, complied with by both sides,' Lammy emphasized. He will also discuss the issue of 680 tonnes of British aid awaiting entry into Gaza with Netanyahu, the Foreign Office revealed.
Lammy's Labour Party, which secured a significant victory earlier this month despite challenges in areas with substantial Muslim populations due to dissatisfaction with its stance on Gaza, has identified long-term peace and security in the Middle East as a priority. The party has pledged to recognize a Palestinian state, aiming to contribute to a renewed peace process that culminates in a two-state solution.
