The Digital Cooperation Organisation (DCO), a global multilateral organisation dedicated to fostering digital prosperity for all by promoting the sustainable and inclusive growth of the digital economy, organised a strategic roundtable involving major technology companies, social media platforms, and digital service providers to tackle the societal effects of online misinformation. This event follows a series of global roundtables in 2023 focused on 'combating online misinformation' as part of the Digital Space Accelerators initiative, continuing the DCO's efforts in this area. Key participants included representatives from Google, LinkedIn, Meta, and TikTok, who engaged in discussions on this critical issue affecting the digital realm.

Held at the DCO's headquarters in Riyadh, the roundtable aimed to pinpoint challenges and devise innovative solutions to enhance trust and protect the digital economy. The involvement of social media and digital platform representatives highlighted the significance of the event, offering a vital forum for stakeholders to share insights and explore joint efforts against online misinformation. The discussions sought to establish a continuous dialogue on the severity of online misinformation, both as a societal issue and a digital economy challenge, and to facilitate collaborative efforts among stakeholders to ensure a reliable digital information ecosystem.

Alaa Abdulaal, chief of the Digital Economy Foresight department at the DCO, expressed confidence in the multistakeholder cooperation approach to combat misinformation, aligning with the DCO's mission. He anticipates that the outcomes of this roundtable will lead to a more informed and resilient digital society and looks forward to future collaborative efforts to achieve digital prosperity for all.

Sarah Al-Husseini from Google, Ranim Alamin from LinkedIn, Tom Bonsundy-O'Bryan from Meta, and Hatem Samman from TikTok each reiterated their commitment to combating misinformation through collaborative efforts and technological advancements, emphasizing the importance of trust in the digital information ecosystem.

The Digital Cooperation Organisation remains dedicated to fostering a collaborative approach to combating misinformation and ensuring the growth of the digital economy, looking forward to continued impactful collaboration with its partners in the social media and digital platform sector.
