The original Death Stranding had its own peculiar quirks, but it seems Hideo Kojima is taking things to a whole new level with the sequel, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. At the Tokyo Game Show, Kojima Productions unveiled an extended preview of Death Stranding 2, showcasing fresh characters, a photo mode, and a living puppet named Dollman who harbors a musical inclination.
In the initial scene, Norman Reedus' Sam Porter Bridges is reacquainted with Fragile (Léa Seydoux), who introduces him to Tarman (voiced by Marty Rhone, with a likeness inspired by director George Miller), the captain of a submarine. Dollman (voiced by Jonathan Roumie, with the puppet's appearance modeled after Fatih Akin) also welcomes Sam and discloses that he was once a human medium before being confined to his current form.
Following this, Sam meets a pregnant woman named Rainy (Shioli Kutsuna) and a newcomer known as Tomorrow (Elle Fanning). When Tomorrow begins singing to Rainy's baby, Dollman seizes the moment to join in, even while suspended from Sam's belt. It appears this is how Dollman and Sam will be journeying together.
Subsequently, Sam and Dollman encounter Heartman (with a likeness based on Nicolas Winding Refn, voiced by Darren Jacobs), a man capable of literally stopping his heart at will. Heartman's exo-suit also grants him the ability to sleep in any upright position he desires. The video concludes with Fragile, Tomorrow, and Rainy engaging in playful antics in the photo mode, producing Polaroid-like images that appear more lifelike than the rest of the scenes.
Death Stranding 2 is yet to receive a release date, but it is slated to arrive on PlayStation 5 in 2025.
