In a surprising move, Kojima Productions has announced that Death Stranding is now available on Xbox Series X|S. This marks the first game from Hideo Kojima and his studio since their departure from Konami. Originally released five years ago on PS4, Death Stranding later saw ports for PC and iOS in 2022 and 2023, respectively. As part of a launch promotion, publisher 505 Games is offering the game at a 50% discount on Xbox. This edition is the Director's Cut, which includes enhanced graphics, gameplay tweaks, and additional content on top of the original release.

Set in a world where humanity has barely escaped an extinction-level event, Death Stranding follows Sam Porter Bridges as he embarks on a post-apocalyptic journey to reconnect the fragmented cities of the USA. The game boasts a high-profile cast, with characters voiced by and modeled after celebrities such as Norman Reedus, Lea Seydoux, Mads Mikkelsen, Troy Baker, and Guillermo del Toro.

Justin Clark of GameSpot praised the Director's Cut, noting, "Despite the violence, surreal horror, and bleak depiction of the post-apocalypse, there's always been a strong sense of hope, love, and connection in Death Stranding. The Director's Cut offers the best reason to revisit this grim world, making the experience more accessible and enjoyable."

A sequel, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, was officially announced in 2022, following months of speculation. Although no release date has been set, it promises to be a thrilling continuation of the original story. Additionally, A24, known for its film and television productions, has partnered with Kojima Productions to create a live-action adaptation of Death Stranding, with Kojima aiming for prestigious awards in the film industry.

Beyond Death Stranding, Kojima has collaborated with Jordan Peele, director of Get Out, on a project titled OD for Xbox Game Studios. He is also working on a Metal Gear-like game, currently under the working title Physint.
