Russian state media reports that the deposed Syrian president, Bashar al-Assad, is in Moscow with his family.

Citing a source within the Kremlin, the Russian state news agency TASS announced that Assad and his family members have been granted asylum in the Russian capital. This development comes after considerable speculation about Assad's whereabouts following reports that he fled Damascus ahead of the rebel forces' arrival earlier today.

Syrian rebels made their way into Damascus on Sunday morning, marking the end of Bashar al-Assad's regime and bringing an end to the Assad dynasty, which had ruled for over 50 years.
