Destiny 2 players recently stumbled upon an exploit that enabled them to acquire the Dawning Event Card Upgrade—usually priced at $10 USD—completely free of charge. Surprisingly, Bungie has decided to let players keep the upgrade.

Players quickly spotted the upgrade being offered for free in Destiny 2's in-game shop, with some even creating videos and posts to share the news. Bungie promptly disabled the upgrade, but this action inadvertently paused all Dawning 2024 Event Card Triumphs and related progress.

Naturally, some players were frustrated by the halt in their Dawning progress, while others were concerned that their free upgrade might be revoked. Initially, Bungie stated that once the issue was resolved, players would need to repurchase the upgrade for 1,000 Silver.

However, Bungie seems to have reconsidered. Shortly after announcing that Dawning Event Card progression was paused and that players would need to repurchase the upgrade, the developer shared a new announcement. The underlying bug causing the issue had been fixed, and players who obtained the upgrade for free would be allowed to keep it.

The reason behind Bungie's change of heart might be tied to the festive season. The Dawning's in-game description encourages players to "Collect ingredients, bake treats, and exchange gifts to celebrate the season." In a follow-up tweet, Bungie advised players to stay tuned for an upcoming update regarding the Dawning Card situation.
