Destiny: Rising, the mobile RPG inspired by Bungie's shooter series and developed by NetEase, has commenced its closed alpha test today, November 1. This invitation-only test will run until December 5 at 11:59 PM PT and is accessible to participants in the US and Canada. Those who haven't yet registered can do so on the Destiny: Rising website for a chance to join. The test officially goes live today at 9 AM PT / 12 PM ET, so expect gameplay footage to start surfacing soon.
The closed alpha offers a glimpse into the full game, featuring the prologue of the main story campaign, three public events, two strike missions, and access to Gauntlet—a raid-like, six-player mode. Additionally, players can experience game modes such as Morgran's Prey, The Realm of the IX, Legacy, and Shifting Gates, along with 'casual activities' designed to bridge missions. The existence of this Destiny mobile game from Bungie and NetEase was leaked in September, following news in 2018 that NetEase had invested $100 million in Bungie for non-Destiny projects. It seems the partnership might have evolved, as Destiny: Rising is clearly a Destiny game, or perhaps there are more collaborations in the pipeline.
Beyond Destiny: Rising, Bungie is also developing a survival shooter titled Marathon and reportedly other projects. The company underwent substantial changes in 2024, including significant layoffs affecting several senior staff members. Some of these staff are now joining a new team within Sony to create a fresh action game. Meanwhile, Destiny 2 has just launched its Festival of the Lost event for Halloween.
