Dan Campbell's home address was publicly disclosed on social media by his daughter's classmate earlier this year, as reported by the Detroit News on Monday. This revelation led the Detroit Lions head coach to sell the family's home following at least four documented incidents of harassment and unwanted visitors at the property.
The Detroit News detailed that the doxxing prompted several individuals to arrive at the Campbells' residence in Bloomfield Township, Michigan, on the night of January 28th, shortly after the Lions' defeat by the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship Game. An investigation by police and NFL security uncovered that a male high school classmate of Campbell's daughter shared the family's home address on Snapchat with the caption: "Dumb fuck trying to go for it".
Campbell and his wife, Holly, who were still in the Bay Area at the time, grew anxious for their daughter's safety at their suburban home after vehicles and people appeared outside the house, according to the report. The daughter's boyfriend, who was also present at the house, "went outside in his vehicle and flashed his headlights at anyone approaching, causing these individuals to turn off and leave," as stated in the report.
The report further mentioned that the daughter's classmate was identified the next day and questioned by investigators. However, authorities informed Holly Campbell that the incident did not meet the criteria for filing criminal charges against the classmate. The classmate claimed he and his friends were "distraught" by the Lions' loss to the 49ers and found humor in the Snapchat post. Subsequently, the classmate and his friends drove to the Campbells' residence, parked on the street, and shouted derogatory remarks towards the house before departing, according to the report.
"Holly's primary concern is that their address is now public, and she fears that next season, people will know when her husband is out of town and attempt to exploit that," the investigator noted, as reported. Last week, Crain's Detroit Business reported that the Campbells' address had been leaked online, resulting in pranks and harassment on multiple occasions. The publication revealed that Campbell and his wife purchased a 7,800 sq ft Cape Cod-style "mansion" in Oakland County, Michigan, in 2021.
"The home is beautiful," Campbell told Crain's. "It's just that people figured out where we lived when we lost." Although Campbell did not disclose information about the family's new residence, the old one was listed on Zillow at $4.5 million on Tuesday and went under contract the same day. According to Zillow, the five-bedroom, seven-plus bathroom home on 1.72 acres sold for $3.5 million in March 2021.
Campbell's Lions had a 3-13-1 record in his first season in 2021 but have since improved to a 23-14 record.
