As the gaming world gears up for Geoff Keighley's yearly extravaganza of news at The Game Awards, Devolver Digital has opted to jump the gun. Today, the publisher unveiled Devolver Delayed 2024, a playful awards show spotlighting three games that have been postponed to 2025: Baby Steps, Stick It To The Stickman, and Skate Story. Each game's delay was humorously announced as a specific "award" against other fictional contenders.
The "awards ceremony" then transitioned to a fourth accolade, Best Color Version Of A Monochromatic Classic. The victor was the previously unheralded Volvy's Adventure DX, accompanied by a brief gameplay teaser featuring an 8-bit side-scrolling platformer starring Devolver's rodent-like mascot. The presentation refrains from confirming the game's existence, and Inscryption creator Daniel Mullins, who appears to accept the award for an unexplained reason, even remarks that he "doesn't even think it's a real game." Thus, the actuality of Volvy's Adventure DX remains uncertain.
All three confirmed games in the showcase—Baby Steps, Stick It To The Stickman, and Skate Story—will now debut in 2025, having previously been slated for a 2024 release. Baby Steps was initially revealed at the Devolver Digital Showcase in June 2023, while both Skate Story and Stick It To The Stickman made their debuts the previous year.
