The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has granted the first two Independent Charge Point Operator (CPO) licenses for electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in Dubai to Tesla and UAEV, as announced on Wednesday during GITEX Global 2024.

The issuance of these licenses aims to meet the growing demand for more EV charging stations in Dubai, according to Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, DEWA's Managing Director and CEO. Al Tayer emphasized that the comprehensive regulatory framework demonstrates DEWA's dedication to encouraging private sector involvement in promoting sustainability and lowering emissions in the mobility sector.

This initiative also fosters investment in green mobility infrastructure within Dubai, enhancing the quality of life, promoting the use of clean energy, and achieving a balance between economic development and environmental conservation, he added. DEWA introduced the region's first public EV charging infrastructure in 2014.
