Diablo Immortal is commemorating 20 years of World of Warcraft with a series of special events, including a limited-time Lich King boss battle, a new PvP battleground inspired by WoW's Arathi Basin, Murloc familiar skins, and a variety of free and paid cosmetics.

From November 13 to December 11, players in Blizzard's mobile game can engage in a showdown with the Lich King (Arthas), a character that has remained iconic in the Warcraft franchise for 30 years and 20 years in WoW. Arthas will employ his signature abilities during the battle, such as summoning ghouls and abominations to fight under his command.

However, players will not be able to challenge the Lich King at will. They must obtain special items called Fallen Citadel Gates to access Arthas' frozen throne. These items can be earned by completing dungeons, as log-in rewards, or as rare drops from monsters during the event.

The event offers more than just the Lich King battle. Players can earn new weapon cosmetics modeled after some of WoW's legendary weapons, such as Thunderfury, Shadowmourne, Gorehowl, and Atiesh, by progressing through an event pass. Additionally, those who missed out on the Frostmourne skin from a previous WoW-themed event will have another chance to acquire it.

A new PvP battleground, Cutthroat Basin, will also be introduced on November 13. This map is based on WoW's Arathi Basin, featuring capture points like the lumber mill, blacksmith, and stables. Player levels, items, and gems will be normalized for fairness, and special skill orbs granting WoW abilities like Blessing of Kings, Stealth, Eagle Eye, and Blink will be available during the battle.

Other cosmetics are available, though some require payment. Free Murloc skins for Diablo Immortal's familiar pets can be earned, but Illidan-themed wings and cosmetics are only obtainable through the gacha-style Phantom Market, with one free roll for logging in during the event. Two versions of WoW's iconic Ashbringer sword will be purchasable from the in-game shop, with no free alternative.

For WoW players, a special cosmetic, the Treasure Nabbin' Bag back item, can be earned by logging into Diablo Immortal with a character level 10 or above using the same Battle.net account. For further details, visit Blizzard's blog.

Blizzard has been celebrating WoW's 20th anniversary across several of its games, including WoW-themed skins in Diablo 4 and Overwatch 2. A major 20th-anniversary event is currently live in WoW, offering players the opportunity to earn updated versions of the game's tier-2 gear sets.
