Dick Van Dyke feels fortunate that he likely won't live to see Donald Trump's second term as president. The 98-year-old Hollywood icon was spotted with his wife, Arlene Silver, 52, on Tuesday when he addressed questions about the 78-year-old president-elect's recent win. Van Dyke, who will turn 99 next month, expressed gratitude that he "won't be around" to witness Trump's return to the White House.

"Does the future look bright for America?" a paparazzo inquired as Van Dyke and Silver prepared to get into their car, according to DailyMail. Initially, Van Dyke didn't catch the question, but after Silver repeated it, he responded, "I hope you're right!" The photographer then asked, "Do you think Donald Trump is capable of making America great again?" The acting legend gave a knowing smile and said, "Fortunately, I won't be around to experience those four years."

Van Dyke subtly supported Trump's opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris, 60, in a video shared on his Instagram the day before the election. In the video, he recited a speech written by Rod Serling, creator of "The Twilight Zone," which he first read alongside Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at the LA Colosseum on May 31, 1964. After the recitation, Van Dyke noted that while much has changed in 50 years, much remains the same. "It's not what Martin Luther King dreamed of, but it's a start," he said, adding, "Thank you and God bless."

Although he didn't name Harris or Trump directly, Van Dyke tagged the Harris campaign's Instagram account along with the official vice president's account. He captioned the post, "VOTE!!!" Van Dyke's recent comments about his age align with other light-hearted, yet somber remarks he's made lately. When asked in September how he felt after missing the Primetime Emmy Awards, where he was originally scheduled to present, the comedy legend jokingly replied, "I feel old." He also quipped about his upcoming 99th birthday, saying, "[I'm] just praying that I make it."

Despite missing the Primetime Emmys and a three-day FanX event in Salt Lake City due to health reasons, Van Dyke did appear at the 2024 Creative Arts Emmys on September 7. Reflecting on his career, Van Dyke told reporters at the awards that he wants to be remembered "for laughter."
