Punjabi sensation Diljit Dosanjh once again delivered a sold-out performance, this time at Etihad Park in Abu Dhabi. Unlike many other artists who typically feature an opening act, Dosanjh began his show with a two-minute video where he spoke about the concept of the 'One'. The video, narrated by Diljit in Punjabi, delves into the journey of life and his belief in the unity of God and humanity. Despite the tranquil tone of the video, the singer burst onto the stage with immense energy, kicking off with his hit song GOAT. Dressed in his signature all-white traditional Punjabi attire, complete with a 'turle wali pagg' (turban with a fan), he captivated the audience from the start.
His distinctive style has become so iconic that many fans, including 13-year-old Arvin Singh and 7-year-old Ashvin Singh, arrived dressed in similar outfits. Their parents, Sarabjiit Kaur and Gurpreet Singh, revealed that they spent nearly 20 days preparing their sons' outfits and dressed them in the parking lot of the venue, as they were traveling from Dubai. Throughout the concert, Dosanjh repeatedly expressed his gratitude to the audience, especially those who donned the attire he made famous. At one point, he even inquired about the origins of the concert-goers near the stage, with many proudly declaring they came from Dubai, while some even flew in from India and Pakistan.
Dosanjh's performance spanned a wide range of his discography, from mid-2010s hits like Veer Vaar and 5 Taara to his recent Bollywood tracks Ikk Kudi and Naina, and his latest hits Born To Shine and Lemonade. The nearly 2.5-hour show included a brief 30-minute intermission, during which the singer returned in an all-black western outfit, reinvigorated. After more chart-topping tunes, he took a moment to reiterate his belief in the oneness of all people. However, this did not stop him from sharing some of his trademark witty jokes.
Earlier in the evening, he made a triangle gesture with his hands, which some netizens have associated with the alleged secret society 'Illuminati', accusing him of being a member. Laughing, he said, "I just do it now because I know you all enjoy it." He playfully asked if anyone had seen the society and jokingly admitted to being a member. The charismatic performer also gifted his sunglasses, a glove, and his jacket to lucky audience members. He concluded the night with his song Main hoon Punjab from the movie 'Chamkila', as fireworks illuminated the park.
Dosanjh, who has been in the industry for about 25 years, hails from a small city in Punjab and has now achieved international fame, putting his hometown on the global map. As the show ended, a concertgoer remarked, "That song is now his anthem."
