A traffic incident captured by Abu Dhabi Police's road cameras involved a distracted driver who did not notice a stationary taxi at a pedestrian crossing. In a 25-second video clip shared by the police on Friday, a mini van fails to recognize the taxi that had halted for pedestrians to cross. The mini van attempts to avoid the collision at the last instant but crashes into the taxi, which had previously signaled its stop by activating the hazard lights. The three pedestrians narrowly escape after noticing the mini van's imminent impact on the taxi.
The Directorate of Traffic and Security Patrol has called on drivers to remain vigilant at pedestrian crossings. The authority emphasized that pedestrian safety is a shared responsibility between pedestrians and drivers. Motorists are urged to prioritize pedestrians at designated crossing areas and to pay attention to pedestrian movements. Failure to give priority to pedestrians at designated crossing points results in a Dh500 fine and six black points.
