Dominic Morton, an 18-year-old golfer based in Dubai, is eagerly anticipating his future as he prepares to embark on a golf scholarship to Odessa University in Texas, USA. Originally from England, Morton relocated to Dubai with his family in 2018 and became a member of Trump International Golf Club. He currently holds a +2.5 handicap and has recently completed his IB course at GEMS Wellington School in Dubai.
Having actively participated in the Emirates Golf Federation (EGF) Order of Merit events in the UAE, Morton expressed his enjoyment of golf in the country and his participation in numerous EGF tournaments. Notably, he achieved victory in the EGF Order of Merit Men’s Championship at Al Zorah Golf Club and secured eighth place in the 2023 – 24 EGF Men’s Order of Merit.
Prior to commencing his four-year Business course in August through his golf scholarship, Morton will be traveling to the UK in mid-June to compete in regional and national tournaments. He emphasized the need to maintain academic excellence alongside his commitment to golf, balancing his training and gym sessions with academic studies during the week and dedicating weekends to golf and tournaments.
Morton is eagerly anticipating upcoming competitions such as the English and Scottish Boys’ Championships, as well as the English Amateur and Scottish Amateur. Acknowledging that this season marks his final opportunity to participate in the Boys’ Divisions due to age restrictions, he also plans to join North West regional events and The Open Qualifier at Hesketh.
Regarding his upcoming venture in the US, Morton mentioned his excitement and the support from friends already studying at American universities. Despite facing a setback earlier in the season due to a hernia operation, he has recuperated and feels confident about his game. He acknowledged his strengths in driving distance and putting, while highlighting the areas for improvement in his chipping, approach play, and mental fortitude.
Looking ahead to his time at Odessa University, Morton aims to demonstrate his skills on the golf course and secure a place in the University team, guided by Head Coach Brad Stracke.
