Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Vice President and Deputy Prime Minister, alongside Dr Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and Group CEO of ADNOC, attended the ADIPEC 2024 opening ceremony at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre on Monday.

Dr Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, in his keynote address at the 40th edition of ADIPEC, urged the energy industry to spearhead the next phase of sustainable socioeconomic growth. He outlined how the industry could leverage the three global megatrends: the rise of emerging markets, the growth of artificial intelligence (AI), and the transformation of energy systems. Dr Al Jaber emphasized that harnessing these megatrends necessitates unprecedented cross-sectoral integration to accelerate sustainable growth.

He highlighted the importance of targeted investment, robust grid and energy infrastructure, and enabling policies and regulations to unlock the transformative potential of these megatrends. ADNOC, under Dr Al Jaber's leadership, is embracing these trends and exploring new opportunities across the energy value chain globally to ensure long-term sustainability and decarbonization.

Dr Al Jaber noted that by 2050, the world's population will increase by 1.7 billion, predominantly in the Global South, necessitating a shift and growth in energy markets and a transformation of energy systems. He also pointed out that AI's exponential growth is creating unprecedented energy demands, which will require a diverse mix of energy sources and advanced infrastructure to meet sustainably.

The UAE, Dr Al Jaber emphasized, is proactively adapting its energy systems, citing ADNOC's international growth strategy, which includes expanding its global gas footprint, investing in the chemicals sector, enhancing battery storage solutions, and advancing low-carbon fuels and carbon capture technologies.

Dr Al Jaber announced ENERGYai, a transformative AI solution developed in partnership with AIQ, G42, and Microsoft, which will apply agentic AI at scale within the energy industry. This platform aims to autonomously analyze vast datasets, make real-time decisions, and drive significant operational improvements.

He concluded by urging industry leaders to embrace these transformative forces and use ADIPEC 2024 as a launchpad for action and impact, emphasizing that the energy industry must step up to lead the way in sustainable growth.
